Historical Archives

The Historical Archives of the City of Florence hold the documents produced and received by the local government established in 1781 with the Edict of Pietro Leopoldo, Grand Duke of Tuscany.
Containing the archives of hospitals, schools, charities and theaters, it is an invaluable asset, a historical memory of the city of Florence and its citizens from the eighteenth to the twentieth century.

It is possible to consult the original documents stored in the archives. Access to the consultation room is free, after registration and in compliance with the rules of the archives. Registration can be carried out by filling in this form or by contacting the Archives by phone or by mail.
