Culture of Peace - Culture for Peace, the Italian cooperation in support of the Iraqi cultural heritage, Salone de' Dugento, December 12, 2014
A day of study and research on the situation in Iraq , with a particular focus on the Autonomous Region of Kurdistan accompanied by a presentation of the results and activities promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and by the subjects of the Italian cooperation for the preservation and valorisation of the Iraqi cultural heritage: in this specific moment when Iraq is experiencing a situation of conflict, it appears very important to strengthen the support to institutions that operate in that territory in order to preserve and protect an extraordinary cultural heritage. The initiative is open to the public and will be held December 16, 2014 in Palazzo Vecchio , Salone de ' Dugento from 9:00 to 18:00.
Mayor Nardella and councillor Mantovani meet the ambassador of Kuwait in Italy - Sala di Clemente VII, November 24, 2014
Meeting of Mayor Nardella and the commissioner for cooperation and international relations Nicoletta Mantovani with the Ambassador of Kuwait in Italy, Sheikh Ali Khaled Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. The meeting highlighted the excellent relations existing with the city of Florence but also the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the State of Kuwait and Italy. New opportunities of development and investments were launched, consolidating a long relationship: Florence is twinned with Kuwait City since 1991 and the Association Italy-Kuwait, founded precisely in Florence in 1990, is still active and supports the city Administration in this endeavor.
Mission to Philadelphia (U.S.A) of Councillor Mantovani, October 20-21, 2014
Councillor Mantovani after a first stop in New York, arrived in Philadelphia, where Mayor Michael Nutter wanted to link the celebration of Columbus Day, the main day dedicated to Italian-Americans, with the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the twinning agreement between the two cities. The renewal of the agreement was signed in the 9th Avenue, an historical street dedicated to Italians, where it is possible to find many shops managed by descendants of Italian immigrants who reserved a particularly warm welcome. The next day there was the Columbus Day Parade on Broadstreet ended with an interview with the ABC television network, where Councillor Mantovani stressed the importance of the revitalization of the twinning highlighting the beauties of Florence, major travel destination for Americans.

24/03 (Salone de 'Cinquecento) The chairman of the Commission of Culture, Federica Giuliani welcomed a group of 7 Russian students, the headmaster and a teacher of the school Dubravushka (a school on the outskirts of Moscow that organizes training courses on Italian culture for young Russians with residential base in Florence or surroundings). The school Dubravushka was founded in 1989. On programme other training courses for May, June, July, August and November. A guided tour of the Salone de’ Cinquecento followed.
7/03 (Sala di Cosimo) Mayor Dario Nardella has received a delegation of the Consular Meeting (27 personalities among diplomats and their spouses), consisting of SE Bjørn T. Grydeland, Ambassador of Norway in Rome and by the Consuls of Norway in Italy accompanied by Mr. Marco Biagini, Consul of Norway to Tuscany / Umbria / Marche. The Consular Meeting, which is hosted annually by one of the Norwegian Consulate, took place this year in Florence. The mayor gave to the Ambassador a presse-papier with the logo of Florence Capital City and to each Consul a reproduction of the map by Egnazio Danti of the Scandinavian countries. A guided tour of the Museum of Palazzo Vecchio, the Tower of Arnolfo and the Excavations of the Roman Theatre followed.
03/02 (Sala degli Otto) Delegation from Shuzou (China): exchange of best practice on the theme of the conservation of Cultural Heritage and the institutional communication of a UNESCO site. 11/01 Participation of Councillor Mantovani with the Gonfalone of the City of Florence in the march of the Republican National Unity organized in Paris against terrorism and in solidarity with Charlie Hebdo. The event started from the Place de la République up to Place de la Nation (see photogallery).
